Ding ding - Speedy delivery

There is a whole subclass of addons created to improve the interface and functionality of the in game mail system inside World of Warcraft.  They are such a central tool to gold makers that many auctioneering suites include a mail addon.

While  it is possible to manually send materials to your crafter and finished goods to your auctioneer, mistakes can potentially send your inventory off to some strange character whose name just happens to be similar to that of one of your alts.  Besides that risk it is tedious as hell.  And this is a game, and games are intended to be entertaining.

There are two main schools of thought concerning mail addons.  Some advocate that you run them at all times.  This ensures that it ensures your in game mail is always enhanced.  I am going to argue for a modified approach.  To run it only when you are planning on crafting or auctioneering.
My wife leveled up inscription on her main (thank you dear you are pretty!)  Which meant I was constantly sending her herbs to be ground into inks.  Initially we left the mail addon running at all times.  unfortunately that had a side effect of whenever she checked her in game mail the addons would immediately fill up her bags.  Requiring her to empty her bags into the bank before she could go out and quest.   She found it so irritating that she threatened to just delete the excess herbs because it was keeping her from being able to play the game as she wanted.

Our solution was to set up a profile in Addon Control Panel (http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/acp) that has her mail addon and her crafting addon on it.  When she feels like crafting, she turns on that profile, walks over to the mailbox and it opens the mail and she proceeds to craft.  When she doesn't want to craft glyphs she loads her questing profile which turns off the mail and crafting addons and loads the addons she needs for questing and running dungeons.

With most if not all mail addons you can set it up to automatically mail specific items to specific characters.  I have it set to send some of the most common materials I buy at the Auction house to the specific crafter who will be turning them into finished goods.  This makes things significantly easier if you are routinely crafting a lot of glyphs, cutting a lot of gems or making a lot of bags.

I have used several mail addons including Postal and others.  Currently I use the mail plugin for the Tradeskill Master Suite.  (http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/tradeskillmaster_mailing)  Being part of TSM simplifies my update routine, whenever new patches come out.

I strongly encourage everyone to use a mail addon to enhance the functionality of the in game mail system.  To use Addon Control Panel to set up crafting and playing profiles.  And to explore the options within a mail addon to streamline the flow of inventory  between characters.
