UI themes

Set up themes within your UI to indicate when you have all of your Auction house and crafting addons loaded and when you have your questing and dungeon running addons loaded.  
This is easy to accomplish with Addon Control panel.  Just select what addons you use for each task and save them as a profile within Addon Control panel.  
I use EliteFrame to indicate when I am in crafting mode and Shadowed Unit Frames for dungeons and raids.

Reevaluate your pricing

Everyone should periodically check their default prices and fall backs against their markets to see if adjustments are necessary. Look up the prices of several items that you that you routinely trade in, and check their pricing history on the Undermine Journal. I would suggest looking at the range of prices and divvy it up into thirds. Place your pricing in the lower third if you have a lot of stock and want to reduce the time it takes to post and repost it. Set your pricing in the upper third if you either do not have a lot of stock, and the item is not sold in large quantities on your server to maximize profits per sale. Of course you can set your prices in the middle third to balance between the two.

For leveling characters with gathering professions through the new expansion, I strongly encourage you to carry one of these slick little items.  It takes the place several tools, giving you back bag space, and a bonus to your gathering skill.  

Thinking others may think along the same lines, I made several and listed them on my auction house.  I also picked up one significantly below the costs to create and re-listed it as well. 

Item restoration

We have all done it, accidentally sold or deleted an item in game and later regretted it.  For vendors there has been a buy back option for a while, and for items purchased with tokens (Honor, Conquest, Valor, Justice, Gear) you have 2 hours to return the item if you have second thoughts.   Blizzard recently deployed a new system that allows players to recover items that they mistakenly sold, destroyed, or disenchanted in game.  
Battle.net Item Restoration.   This is a self service feature that allows you to recover a an item without having to log a ticket with a GM.  

What characters are you going to play in the next expansion?

Now that I have had some time with patch 5.0.4 I am finding myself pulling up characters that had been leveled to at least level 75 to take advantage of max professions in Cataclysm and considering actively playing them again.  Try out new mechanics introduced into classes that you assumed you knew everything about and had grown bored of.     

For cataclysm I set aside heirloom gear, mail shoulders, chest piece and two matched Venerable Mass of McGowan complete with Crusader enchants for my soon be rolled goblin shaman.  I had even had a character reserving her name for months prior to the launch of cataclysm.  All this preparation paid off as she quickly became my new main and is one of three characters I play regularly and is always my best equipped.  

I encourage everyone to log into all of their alts and give them a spin, you may find your next main.

Use server downtime to do something else

I refer to my gold making strategies as “Getting Rich in WOW - in Only 15 Minutes a Day” And i typically spend these 15 minutes each morning before work.  This means I am not able to login and flip auctions and post more during the server maintenance periods on Tuesday mornings.  I take advantage of this time set aside in my schedule to take care of my real life bills.  I pay those I can online and write the few checks for the companies that haven't joined the last century yet.  Look for something productive you can do in your downtime. 

Level your auctioneer

This bit of advice is one of the few times I will say do as I say, not as I do.  As an experiment a few months back I rolled a Deathknight and started playing the transmog market on a low pop server.  Even though I am flipping 100’s of items every two days, I really began to appreciate having the deathcharger to speed up the run between the mailbox and the auction house.  And this is even in the Tauren quarter of Orgrimmar.  So I strongly suggest you level your auctioneer up to the point they can have a mount, which is currently level 20.

Visit the local Ink Trader QUICKLY!

Normally this would be posted as a quick tip on Tuesdays, but by then it will be too late to take advantage of.  While I was planning on swapping the bank tabs of blackfallow ink I had stockpiled due to inscription sales slowing lately;I had no real firm idea of how much I should stockpile of each ink.  When crafting I typically buy a few 100 of each ink that are showing as necessary in my crafting queue.  I know I use more Ink of the Sea than anything else.  And I never seem to use up the Shimmering ink I bought too much of.  Beyond that I do not really have a grasp of what I needed.  

Jim Younkin came to rescue!  He shared via twitter that he had a worksheet posted that would help you determine what to stockpile.  The sheet breaks how much of each ink to buy based on their distribution used in crafting all glyphs.  

I strongly encourage everyone who has blackfallow ink stockpiled to download this spreadsheet and visit their local ink trader and swap their inks accordingly.

Auctioneers and companion pets

A quick tip for all of you who have dedicated auctioneer alts.  I would suggest you keep a companion pet out when using that character to post auctions.  posting up auctions generates a lot of database calls between the local game client and the server.  Which creates a fair bit of lag.  By keeping the pet out, when you walk back to the mailbox to get the next batch of goods to sell you can tell when the server has “caught up” to you by when the pet runs over to stand by you.  while the server was processing all your auction posts, your pet has been over there still standing by the auctioneer.
